"Color creates, enhances, changes, reveals and establishes the mood of the painting." -Kiff Holland.
Hey everybody! My name is Sahaja, and I'd like you to join me in my journey of exploring the wonderful aspects of Color. We already know that a color is as strong as the impression it creates.
Let us first understand what the term "Color" means.
Color is deprived from the Latin word, 'COLARE'. It is a property of light and is a sensation conveyed to the mind by the medium of eyes. It is also referred to as "PIGMENTUM", meaning 'to paint'.
The Color Theory, encompasses a multitude of definitions, concepts and design applications. However, there are 3 basic categories of the Color Theory that are logical and useful:
The Color Wheel, Color Harmony and The context of how colors are used.
Let us first explore Color using the very basic method, the Color Wheel, A Color Wheel is an abstract illustrative organisation of Color Hues around a circle that shows relationships between primary, secondary and tertiary colors. The Color Wheel helps people understand the relationships between colors for art and design planning, such as color schemes
Fact: The arrangement of colors around the color circle is often considered to be in correspondence with the wavelengths of light, as opposed to hues, in accord with the original color circle of Isaac Newton.
The primary colors also known as the 'Pure Colors' are Red, Yellow and Blue. They are so named as these colors cannot be created by combining two other colors. These 3 colors can be combined in numerous ways to make a useful range of colors. For human applications, primary colors are typically used, since the human color vision is usually Trichromatic.

Just for knowledge : Trichromatic Color vision is the ability of humans and some other animals to see different colors, mediated by interactions among 3 types of color sensing Cone Cells ; one of the 2 types of photoreceptor cells in the retina of the eye which are responsible for color vision.
In theory, the Primary Colors are the root of every other Hue imaginable. The primary pigments used in the manufacture of paint come from the Pure source element of that Hue. There are no other pigments blended in to alter this formula.
# Think of the 3 Primaries as the Parents in the family of colors. Well, they're the main squad after all.
Secondary Colors, on the other hand, are the colors that are formed by combining the primary colors. the colors that come under this category are Green, Purple and Orange.
# Think of the three Secondaries as the Children in the family of colors. The dependent ones.
Tertiary Colors are created when you mix a primary color with a secondary color.
There are 6 tertiary colors namely Red-Orange, Yellow-Orange, Blue-Green, Blue-Violet and Red-Violet.
An easy way to remember these names is to place the Primary name before the other Color. So the tertiary color produced when mixing the Primary Color, Blue with the secondary Color Green, is called 'Blue- Green'.
Hope this blog helped you in understanding the various concepts of Color using the Color Wheel. This is the very basic knowledge that you will need to know in the vast area of Color that will help you to understand all you need to know about Color.

Yellow.+ Red = Orange
Red + Blue = Violet / Purple
Blue + Yellow = Green
Color theories create a logical structure for color. An interesting way of understanding Color would be by assorting fruits and vegetables in the form of a Color Wheel.
There are 6 tertiary colors namely Red-Orange, Yellow-Orange, Blue-Green, Blue-Violet and Red-Violet.
So now, we've learnt all about the 3 main categories of Color ; Primary, Secondary & Tertiary colors with the help of the color wheel. We know that Color theories create a logical structure for color.
